Qualifications/Special Skills Required:

Position Summary:<>The Operations & Production Intern works to technically support MPR’s regional network services and APM National program production.  This position’s primary responsibility will be to assist in the transfer of MPR’s classical CD collection to a file-based play-to-air format. This position will also perform broadcasting and audio production duties as assigned which may include interviews, duplication, audio archiving, show and equipment preparation for live broadcasts and remotes. The intern will receive orientation and training in audio production, studio recording and advanced digital audio workstation post-production techniques.

Duties include:

  • Assisting with the migration of MPR’s CD catalog to a disc-based play-to-air format
  • Archive audio transfers, and media preparation and catalog duties
  • Assisting with sessions in the recording studios at MPR
  • Assisting with live broadcasts and remote recordings

KPNX-TV is accepting applications for the following internships:  News (2), Sports (1), Arizona Midday (1), Weather/Meteorology (1), and Sales (1)
 
Requirements: Students selected for KPNX’s Internship Program must be a student at the college level, preferably majoring in broadcasting, journalism or marketing. Students must receive course credit in an internship approved by the college or university.  There will be no financial remuneration for interns.  Interns are expected to maintain the same high professional ethics as the rest of the Channel 12 team and will be asked to sign our Ethics Policy.
   
12 News:  Interns will learn how a newsroom operates.  Interns will rotate between different newsroom departments and will be exposed to different disciplines including producing, photojournalism, reporting, and newsgathering.
12 News / Sports:  Intern will work in the Sports Department.  The intern and will learn how to log sports events for highlights in the newscast, and will learn sports producing and videotape editing techniques.
Arizona Midday:  Intern will learn how to coordinate guest appearances as well as write and edit segments for this program.        
Weather/Meteorology: Intern will be supervised by News Managers at 12 News and will work with the weather team at 12 News preparing forecasts, learning computer systems maintenance, and assisting with our variety of TV and digital products.  Candidates will have an opportunity to learn the weather patterns of Arizona, the Southwestern USA, Mexico, and the influence of Pacific-based climate phenomena on local, regional, and national weather patterns.
SALES: Intern will be supervised by Sales Managers and will learn how to execute sales projects and promotions, customer service, and research.  Intern will have an opportunity to experience advertising and selling in a contemporary media environment.

We are extremely pleased that you are joining our staff as an intern.  Our intern program serves two purposes:
First, it will let you see and experience the day-to-day operations of a television station and multi-media environment, plus more specifically the marketing and promotion of KSL 5 Television and ksl.com.  Textbooks and instructors can give you only so much.  We hope your “hands on” experience at KSL will serve you well in your college studies and eventually in your career.  Absorb and learn all you can.  Ask questions. 
Second, under the direction of the assigned internship coordinator, your internship will give you the chance to contribute to KSL 5 Television’s efforts and develop valuable skills as you do so.  Interns will be provided a wide range of assignments to enhance their resourcefulness and abilities and will be expected to respond to requests for assistance from any and all of our production staff.  In addition to assigned tasks, what you do will depend upon your initiative--your ability to see a need that you can fill.
We encourage you to be a full participant in the department.  Assignments might include contributing promotional ideas and initiating preliminary research on those ideas; updating the website; participating and assisting in the execution of station promotional and marketing activities; writing promos and teases; and assisting in the production of TV commercials.  You can be as busy and productive as you choose to be.  You are encouraged to be aggressive in your approach to your tasks.  Don’t just wait for the assignments that will come.  Ask for feedback or critiques on everything you do.  If you don’t, you will miss one of the most valuable opportunities you will have.

Position Summary:
 
The Intern works closely with the Senior Marketing Manager to implement the marketing strategies and promotional tactics for American Public Media’s Public Insight Journalism and Sustainability programming initiatives as well as our portfolio of national programs (Marketplace, Weekend America, The Story, Sound Opinions and Word for Word).  Managing marketing tactics so they are executed on-time, on-budget and error-free is a top priority for this position.
 
Position Responsibility:
 
  • Assist in overseeing design and creation of print and online marketing materials (e.g. mailings, sales tools, posters, advertisements, interactive emails).
  • Work with internal creative agency to brainstorm marketing tactics, understand creative briefs that initiate work, and assist Sr. Marketing Manager in moving projects from concept to execution.
  • Audit websites to ensure consistency and accuracy of message and branding, and meet with appropriate marketing and new media personnel to recommend changes.
  • Coordinate execution of regular communication tactics going to our business-to-business audiences (e.g., burning and sending CDs of our national programs to public radio program directors; editing and proofreading regular email communications and advertisements to stations).
  • Other duties as assigned.

·            Must be a current student in an undergraduate or graduate program, or have graduated within 12 months from the start of the internship.

Position Summary:
The End User Computing Intern position works under the direction of the manager of End User Computing (EUC). The EUC group is responsible for supporting, buying, configuring, and distributing desktop and laptop computers for Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) and American Public Media (APM). The EUC group also staffs and runs a Technology Helpdesk supporting MPR/APM’s entire Technology division at our headquarters in downtown St. Paul.
 
Position Responsibility:
 
·            Taking and dispatching Helpdesk calls and support of general office applications such as Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer.
·            Installing standard configurations onto MPR computers using Windows Imaging (WIM) format and Microsoft’s ImageX utility.
·            Support staff in moving, deploying and correctly disposing of computer assets.
·            Perform hardware repair, upgrading and troubleshooting. 
·            Other duties and responsibilities as directed.
 
Required Education and Experience:
 
·            Current participation in educational program related to Personal Computer Support or Information Technology.

97.1 KLSX offers non-paid Internships for College credit only. The number of hours you need to complete is
determent by the college you're attending. On average you'll work 8-10 hours a week. Internships are offered
during the regular business day Monday thru Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We suggest that you come in twice a
week from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The day's and times are flexible. One day will be spent in programming and the
other day in promotions. Interns are expected to interact with listeners, talent, clients and performance venues.
They act as a liaison between 97.1 KLSX and the general public as a station promotional representative. Interns
assist in the overall event process from creation through execution and follow up. 97.1 KLSX encourages teamwork
and leadership while providing an educational experience for students with a passion for the radio industry. They will attend regularly scheduled events and broadcasts and assist in the office.While in the office interns will update databases, input information on the station website, prize fulfillment and assist with day-to-day operation call listeners
to remind them to attend movie screenings.In programming students will do light production, assist with the day-to-day operation, research topics for talk shows, office work and complete tasks as request, such as writing press releases
for station events, contacting record companies for product, obtaining information on existing events in Southern California During the course of the internship interns will learn how to produce, screen calls and run the on-air board.
The production consists mostly of making Air checks for clients. An air check is a proof of performance of something
 that aired. Students will use production studios and learn some digital editing programs. The programs we use are Sound Forge, Vegas, Audiovault, MS Sound Recorder, Easy CD Creator and Click 'N' Design.
