CCNMA workshop: Broadcast breaking news writing with Sergio Quintana

Great stories hang in the viewer’s ear and catch the viewer’s eye.

Veteran broadcast journalist Sergio Quintana maps out some of the best ways to capture breaking news with writing that focuses your story, uses the live elements to tell your story and uses objective copy and subjective sound.

You’ll learn how to gather and use sound that expresses feelings and evoke emotions and learn how to write leads that tell the viewer “so what” and tags that tell the viewer “what’s next.”

The workshop, to be held Saturday, July 25, over Zoom, is sponsored by CCNMA: Latino Journalists of California, which has been fostering the careers of Latino journalists for 48 years. The session is open to all and free, though donations to support CCNMA’s mission are encouraged.

Call-in information will be emailed prior to Saturday and will also be emailed early that morning. Please keep an eye on your spam folder, in case the emails ends up there.
